SSI Celebrates Third Anniversary of Pivotrol Condensate Pumps with Contest

ThomasNet reports that Spirax Sarco Inc. is marking the third anniversary of its Pivotrol® Pressure Powered Condensate Pump with a contest seeking the pump with the highest number of pumping cycles as recorded by the pump's integral cycle counter.

Pump owners are invited to submit photographs of the cycle counter, with the three highest recorded counts earning Apple iPod touch Media Players for the entrants. Every valid entrant will receive a $15 iTunes Store Gift Card.

The Pivotrol Pump, with PowerPivot technology, was introduced in 2004 in answer to reliability problems encountered with condensate pumps as a whole. To underscore the confidence Spirax Sarco held in the PowerPivot technology, the company introduced the Pivotrol pumps with a 3-year or 3-million-cycles warranty, with optional 5-year or 5-million-cycles coverage. An integral cycle counter on each pump confirms the warranty coverage.

The first Pivotrol Pumps will have completed their standard warranty term on a time basis in 2008.According to Product Manager Neil Davies, "Condensate pumps were notorious maintenance headaches prior to the Pivotrol pump. Many in rapid cycling process applications required rebuilding or replacement after only a few months or a few hundred thousand cycles.

We anticipate entries from Pivotrol owners who have recorded several million cycles without failure. The implications for energy savings, maintenance reduction and uptime security are significant."The Pivotrol "High Cyclers Anniversay Contest" will run from December 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008.

More details are available on the Spirax Sarco website, http://www.spirax.com/. Spirax Sarco is the world's leading provider of steam system solutions, dedicated to providing knowledge, service and products for the control and efficient use of steam and other industrial fluids. ThomasNet reports that Iwaki America Inc., from Holliston, MA, announces the introduction of their new MXM series of magnetically driven, ductile cast iron lined, dry run pump designs.

Here's Iwaki's press release as was published on ThomasNet:

Incorporating their proven self-radiating bearing design and dry run rated non-contact system, this rugged compact process pump series provides proven technology for tough chemical handling applications. The MXM series includes motor sizes from 2 HP to 5 HP, flows to 165 GPM and heads to 146 Ft. Back pull out design allows for ease of maintenance. Modular construction with individually replaceable parts maximizes support flexibility. Uses standard NEMA c-face motors for versatility in installation options.

MXM designs utilize a robust internal design ensuring maximum reliability under adverse operating conditions. Non-contact bearing system provides for dry run operation without damage to the pump. Self-radiating bearing system effectively transfers frictional heat from the bearing area to prevent damage during upset operating conditions.

The MXM is another example of Iwaki's commitment to the continuous development of improved chemical pump technology with emphasis on quality, efficiency and performance. Think twice. Spec Once. These pumps are perfect for tank farm transfer, bulk chemical distribution, chemical filtration and circulation, general process pump service.

NIST Helps Heat Pumps Go With The Flow to Boost Output

Photonics Online reports on air-source heat pumps that deliver 1 1/2 to three times more heating energy to a home than the electric energy they consume. This is possible because heat pumps move heat rather than convert it from a fuel (as combustion heating systems do).
