Sauer-Danfoss slows production of pumps

The global economy's slowdown is also influencing pumps manufactures, as you can see from the following report of LJWorld.com about Sauer-Danfoss:

Sauer-Danfoss Inc. is reducing shifts for about a third of its employees in the East Hills Business Park, as one of the plant’s customers is shutting down temporarily for the month of January.
Jamie Bryant, plant manager at Sauer-Danfoss, said that the reduced shifts would affect about 50 of the plant’s 150 employees. The workers make hydraulic pumps for heavy-duty equipment.

Sauer-Danfoss is making the moves in response to the operational shifts of its customer, which is shutting down its own production for the entire month of January, Bryant said.

Hydraulic Submersible Pumps

A release of Griffin Dewatering Corp. from ThomasNet: When determining a pump for an application, there are a number of factors to consider. Among them are flow requirements, head conditions, suction requirements, and dimensional limitations.

Hydraulic submersible pumps are an option and give the added benefit of run dry capability, especially when electric powered pumps are of concern due to potential electrical hazards or other reasons, or diesel driven centrifugal pumps are not an option due to suction lift restraints. Hydraulic submersible pumps are very versatile and can fit in a number of applications.

Piston Pumps feature pneumatic top-head drive motor

Press release of Blackhawk Technology Company from ThomasNet: A new modular design, based on extensive field experience in a variety of customer applications, has resulted in a piston pump design that is easier to install and features a field serviceable pneumatic top-head drive motor that is easy to repair. Designated the Vector, this weather resistant pump includes easy-to-adjust speed control mufflers located on the driver's side frame, making maintenance easy and safe for field personnel.

The Vector piston pump design eliminates fugitive exhaust emission and associated odor problems, because driver air never contacts the liquid being pumped. In addition, a new fluidic switch controls pump speed, so liquid is pumped at a controlled rate, reducing the risk of overpumping and dramatically reducing silting and clogging.

New webinar: Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers

An interesting webinar will take place next month entitled "Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers". It is facilitated by Walt Erndt, Environment One Corporation Assistant Chairman, Technical Committee (SWPA)

When: December 11, 2008 1 p.m. Eastern
Cost to Attendees: FREE

Here are more details on the webinar:

Presented by Pumps & Systems and the Submersible Wastewater Pump Association.

The 60-minute audio and visual presentation will include a 45-minute seminar and 15 minutes of live Q&A.

Since the early 1970s, pressure sewer systems have been an effective method to move residential wastewater through the small diameter pipes of a wastewater collection system where other methods are less economical and less feasible. "Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers" is an essential presentation for understanding and using pressure sewer technology.

By taking advantage of the experience that these systems offer, a new system can be planned, which will provide excellent performance, high reliability and reasonable O&M costs.

"Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers" describes the keys to understanding the differences between conventional gravity sewer systems and pressure sewer systems: the piping network and the reduction of solids size in the wastewater. This presentation describes how the application of grinder pumps and pressure sewer systems is a cost-effective, permanent answer to allow more sites, existing and new, to have access to a public sewer system.

Based on three Technical Resources published by SWPA (The Submersible Wastewater Pump Association): An Introduction to Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers (a PowerPoint Presentation) covering the basics of these products; Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers, a 50-page primer on these systems and the products that go into them; and the Association's Press Information Kit on Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers. In addition, SWPA is planning to present an in-depth Grinder Pumps in Pressure Sewers Training Seminar in the Spring of 2009. For additional information on these SWPA Technical Resources and the Training Program, visit www.swpa.org.
